CREEPS SUBMISSIONS

These are the images I contributed to the second issue of the Creeps Annual Zine.

These lovely ladies were to be the base of an exquisite corpse idea that Nina Carelli came up with. They would have been disassembled and combined with other body parts donated by other creeps members. In the end it was decided that these pinups were strange enough to stand on their own.

Enjoy!

CREEPS II RELEASE PARTY!

Last thing, a bunch of friends and I (Nina Carelli, Becca Bacon, Young Heller, Chris Wednesday, Pan Terzis, Keat Teoh and more) worked on this zine called Creeps Annual and we are having a release party for the second issue tonight! It will be held at the:

Causy Contemporary Gallery
92 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn, NY!

It's from 8-10ish pm. Come join us for some wine and spooky business! Afterward you're all invited to hang with the rest of the mob. I believe we'll all be going to crifdogs and then the Woods!

Hope to see you there!

Morris Dancers 01-05 (The Dark Side)

Dedicateed to Kyle Stecker.

Ten-Paces: World History/World Culture by ME!

The sketch I got by Kerry Hyndman (which had no notes attached). Can anybody tell what these guys are? I felt very uncultured. I did a little digging and I found out that they are Morris Dancers which I would liken to English river dancers. Check em' out on youtube, you'll definitely get a kick out of em'. It was like reading The Canterbury Tales all over again.

Here's my final on it. I was having a tough time with em so I dug down deep into my soul--into my dark side to produce these terrors! It helped that Anna Santaguida called me at my time of need to grill be about why she didn't get invited to my imaginary party. As soon as I got off the phone with her I had a new perspective on the project and I drew these little guys up in 20minutes, had em' inked in less than an hour and was coloring the same night. I finished the next afternoon and tweaked them a little in photoshop and sent em' on their merry way. This is what I'm talking about "life" in my work. There's movement and character in them. I told Anna I could almost hear them making sound effects. I'll post solo shots of each character too. I think they deserve a little individual attention.

Enjoy!

Presh Pup

Now this is the other side of the entry. My sketch was put in a raffle that actually ended up going to Mare Odomo! How lucky for me! He went to final on my piece and I fell in love with it.

Here's my sketch entitled "O.K. Cupid" which features a lovely cameo by the one and only, Charlotte Taylor.

and here is Mare's beautiful final!

I died. Straight up shit myself on the bus to boston and died. (I actually saw it on shawn's phone on the fung-wa bus to boston...that wasn't a figure of speech, that was real life just then.) That was graphic...but necessary.
Mare, dude...you nailed it and I absolutely love it.

Draw!

So I was recently inducted into this really awesome blog called ten-paces and draw that my friend Andrew Vergara introduced me to.

Basically, every other week (or so) by midnight on a monday you turn in a rough sketch on an assigned topic--then your sketch is given to another artist in the ten-paces community and you are given yet a different member's sketch (my tuesday afternoon). A featured artist is picked as the "inspiration" behind the theme and you can either choose to mimic that artist's style, or the artist who's sketch you have, OR use your own style to go to final on the sketch you were assigned. Deadlines are at midnight on the thursday of the same week of your assignment and all entries are posted by friday afternoon! ...it's not as confusing as I had worded it. Promise.

This was my first assignment which I think I botched. The topic was a 3-5 panel comic. This was the sketch I got entitled "Waiting for Sleep" by the incredibly charming Mare Odomo

and this was my final...

which I find a little contrived. No big deal, lesson learned. I also almost didn't make my deadline because I was fussing over it so much because by the end of it I just wasn't buying it. I decided from then on that I would have more fun with these project and the rest of my work because when I have fun with it--it looks fun. I can feel my work breathe when I get loose but I seldom do it. I get so wrapped up in trying to make things pristine that it gets stuffy and dies a little. I get so terrified to make a mistake that it's paralyzing and you can see the fear in the work. Or at least I can.

After this project I loosened up and made a few things I'm pretty proud of. I mad the little horseman and the portrait of me smiling and screaming.

I am also about to post the new submissions for this weeks ten paces theme! It goes up tomorrow and once it has, I'll be sure to show you guys :-) Young called it "festive."

:-)

P.S. Kyle, prepare for the reawakening of my dark side.

Website Re-Vamped

Hey guys! I just finished redoing my website that I was already redoing. Now that it's all up and pretty I just noticed that it's a little big...so I may need to do more editing. While it's up you might as well check it out!

Again, it's ADACQUEL.COM!
